The Marshall Vintage Modern 2266 50 Watt Head is an all-valve single channel amplifier with a choice of two dynamic ranges selectable by footswitch. A master volume has been included in order to practically manage the output levels at all venues. I have owned several Fender, Vox, and Mesa products throughout the years, and I have to say this blows them all out of the water. Its the tone Ive been trying to achieve for a long time with the previous products. Its low dynamic range sounds very similar to an old plexi my grandfather owns. The High dynamic range can take you from a creamy overdriven sound to more overdrive than you care to have, so it will pretty much do it all for you. It has two types of gain control (body and detail) that lets you contour the exact type of overdriven tone you are looking for.

This works great for small and large shows I play, and hasn't failed to amaze me every time I turn it on. My only concern is it is a tad treble heavy at times, but all it takes is a turn down of the treble knob. Otherwise I wouldnt have any other amp than this.

Jim Marshall rocks again!! It's simple, the Marshall Vintage Modern amp is the best amp I have ever played. I have always loved Marshall and their amps can be very pricy, not that this one isn't, but its a few hundred less than some of their other high class tube amps. Its got a a great sound that is to good to be put into words. It may have helped that i tried it with a 2659 dollar Les Paul which was also of high quality, but none the less, this amp has tone that can only be found in a Marshall. I also felt extra special because i was second in the state of CT to play it, only after The guitar center guy that tested it out of the box.

This amp is worth every penny and i would be shocked if you weren't satisfied. I can't wait till I can buy one. If you love the classic rock sounds of the 60's and the 70's than you will love the new Marshall Vintage Modern. I played many quality Fender and Marshall amps and this amp is by far the best sounding amp I have played. It nails the classic Rock sound yet has a very fat and warm distortion that is partially due to the KT66 tubes it has in it. I also like the awesome response this amp has to your touch.

I bought the 50 watt head and cab and It is just what I have been looking for. The cab comes with the clestion g12c 25 watt greenback speakers which really set the tone. These are the same speakers in the Jimi Hendrix limited addition Marshall amp. The amp has that plexi blues breaker sound. Its very versitile You can get a lot of great tone out of this amp its definately a keeper. I sold both my JSX's and bought one of these (VM 2266) and a DSL.

The high frequency is balls out creamy and Very Fizzy distortion. Very cool sound, and its great with all guitars. Very responsive to your touch and if you suck, this amp will let everyone listening know it. If you plan on running any effects thru this be prepared: I had to use a seperate power source (i.e gator G bus, Voodoo lab pedal power etc) for the effects into the front of the amp from effects going into the loop on the back.

In other words you can't dasiy chain all your effects together using 1 power unit. Otherwise the amp makes a loud buzzing noise. Using 2 power sources cleared it right up.

Since this was a restock I purchased new tubes, the new tubes are not stock replacements and really warmed the amp up! BTW this restock probably could be considered new except for the price! I was very impressed with the condition.

But anything higher than that this amp is not capable of handling, maybe if you cranked it, but i didn't i (unlike so many many others) am curtious enough not to disintegrate your eardrums. The distortion of Angus, clean sound of Frusciante and Hendrix. It can even produce that foamy clean sound they had (listen to 'Under the Bridge' by Red Hot chili Peppers if you don't know what I'm talking about.

It's strongest on clean chords)This amp has great veristality and flexibility with all the controls. I liked the sound with the mid boost on. It gave it a bright tube sound, but turn it off and crank up some pre-amp and I got Angus' distortion sound.

The 2 knob control on the pre-amp control gave a great range of distortion, but I found that the distortion sound can get VERY VERY muddy if you have the 'Body' control(I presumed it was the bass control, but not sure) up past about 3 O'clock with the dynamic range on high. I prefered the dynamic range on high, because with it on low seemed to just turn down the volume, with less treble. Another thing I liked was how this could get raging distortion with very suttle, room volumes. The 'detail' control on the pre-amp helped bring brightness to the distortion sound and it could push the tubes on a clean sound with it on about 9 O'clock. The reverb was pretty mellow and you had to put it past 2 O'clock for it to start getting strong. It's more appropiate for small reverb that blends with the sound and adds dimension to it, which I prefer, but if you're looking for a strong reverb sound with it, you'll be disapointed. Considering Vintage Marshalls didn't have reverb, it's an improvement.I gave it a 9 on features, because it's like a 1959 super plexi reissue with alot more tone & volume control, but it's not plexi style(with 2 channels & 2 inputs for both)I gave it an 9 on quality because the 'Body' control muddied up the distortion sound when up too much, though the clean sound is gorgeous with great tweakability.I gave it a 9 on value because, even though I think Marshall's are over priced, this is like a 1959 plexi reissue with more features for a lot cheaper.

In comparison to Amps this quality, it's a great deal.I gave it a 10 on overall, even though I gave everything else 9's, because this amp produces beautiful tube sounds that make me cringe knowing I'm playing those sounds. Even though it has flaws in a few ares, it has what it really important down perfectly. There's never going to be a perfect amp, but this one is pretty damn. I can't wait to own it!!!!

Without a doubt, the Marshall came out on top.

This amp runs the gamut from lovely, vintage-Marshall clean and slightly overdriven tones to classic Marshall crunch. Not super-high gain, but excellent tone.After half an hour of faffing about with the built-in features, I asked the rep if he could grab me an overdrive pedal to put in front of the amp. He handed me a Boss SD-1, and I was in high-gain heaven. Just like the old Marshalls, this amp sounds best when it's being driven hard. And with a nice OD pedal in front of it, I was busting out 80s-metal riffs and solos like nobody's business. The tone is warm and fat, and dripping with sustain. However, this definitely not an amp for those who want to cop Pantera's sound or any of the new, super-drop tuned bands.

It is a 'vintage' toned amp, and while with an OD in front of it it can headbang like it's 1986, it will not bring out that incredibly aggressive distortion that characterizes much of new metal. Robin Trower switched to these Heads because his JMP series are so old they have become unrealiable. I was going to buy this one but while I was trying it out the store's rep suggested trying this Fender 5150 III that was also in the store. The Fender had way more gain just incase I needed it or want it. And when I say gain I mean beautiful tone not the sandy fuzzy stuff!!The tone is clean.

No Reverb-No Master Volume and three channels. Silent switching-Which I don't even use a switch box anyway.

For me I just pick a channel and adjust it the way I want it and I use my fulltone devices to manulipate wanted dirt or gain. Both heads were workable for me.

But the 5150 III had more than that extra edge meat N potatos gain with such a beautiful tone as well so I went with those. I use two of them. They are about $500.00 more a pop. Even though I went with the Fender this Marshall head is top notch in my book! If you want Marshall because Marshalls are beautiful then look no further.

I use it with 2 12-inch Eminence Legend v16 (the Eminence take on the Celestion Vintage 30s) and get creamy tones with humbuckers and also use it with an Analogman DS Pro for high gain front-end distortion with both humbuckers and P-90s. There are not a lot of features but tone-wise, the amp is fairly versatile if you fool with the two front-end contour pots. The reverb is great too, with great range of controls. It can also have that early Black Sabbath sound, but the ideal function, is to use it as a base amp, for all other effects.

It responds very well, and creates a great tube sound. The 'high gain' function on the amp gets you distortion, so you know that that is really just an overdrive function. You have to really figure out what each function does, but there really is not much to figure out.

It doesn't have any effects other than reverb, and doesn't have very much control over the 'high gain' function. That's why I gave it an eight for features, but really it is designed to be like a vintage style tube amp, with modern features to add. This amp rocks, and if you can afford it, get it!
